Choose a date for the party. Make sure it doesn't interfere with a friend or family members party.
Create a guest list. Friends, Family, Co-workers.
Will it be casual or formal.
Set budget for party.
Address invitations and mail them out at least 2 weeks prior to the party. If possible do this step online.

Plan the menu and recruit friends / family to bring dishes to the party.
Select and organize decorations needed for the party.
Do any major cleaning needed for the house at least 5 days before the party.
Make sure you have enough tableware.
Create a music mix to play during the party.
Begin food preparations 2 days in advance before the party.
Charge camera batteries (digital and video).
Keep a clear schedule the day of the party in order to give yourself enough time to complete everything you need.
